2017 Emergency Preparedness Meeting Write-Up

The San Francisco Bay chapter held an emergency preparedness luncheon on Thursday, March 23rd. It is an annual event the chapter sponsors to keep industry partners aware of local resources that are available and how they might protect their businesses if a national disaster hits. The Port of Oakland provides the facility for this event each year and has been a strong supporter of NDTA over the years. As such the chapter gears the subject matter around port operations which has strengthen our relationship with them.
This year we brought in Chief Robert Lip from the Oakland Fire Department and Cecile Pinto emergency preparedness manager from Pacific Gas & Electric. The speakers provided informative discussion that enable the audience to connect the dots. The audience was explained how the speakers’ origination were embedded into the disaster response plan. Chief Lip explain how emergency situations are reviewed and assess. Miss Pinto presentation centered more on equipment and marshaling locations in relation to how those locations are determined, procured and filled. Understanding the financial scope and detail of how outside resources are pulled and equipment are positioned was quite interesting.
Participants walked away with a better comprehension of the logistical planning required and a deeper appreciation for the support emergency responders and utilities companies provide to port operations. Educating industry on the massive communication network involve and in how local, state and federal agencies communicate with each other strengthen our ability to effectively response to disasters. The chapter is proud to do their part in educating its NDTA partners.

Chapter Pres.
